March For The Homeless
Squall 4, April/May 1993, pg. 22.
On Saturday March 12th, a demonstration organised by the Brighton Homeless Action Movement, took place in central London.
Upwards of 500 people marched from Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square in a well-organised, peaceful, energetic afternoon’s protest to highlight the plight of the homeless.
Among those represented on the march were squatters, travellers and a large contingent of street sleepers from the Capital.
The arrival of the marchers at Trafalgar Square was met by the up-beat celtic/rock sounds of the Tofu Love Frogs who transformed the event in to a mini festival.
The event gave plenty of positive photo opportunities for the press and tourists alike in what will hopefully be the first of many such demonstrations.
